History of Make-up

4000 BCE

Egyptian woman would apply a mix of copper and lead ore and malachite to their faces to give colour and definition. They would also used a mix of burnt almonds, oxidized copper, lead ash, ochre and different coloured copper ores for what is known as eyeliner.

100 AD

People in Rome would put barley flour and butter on their pimples, while also putting sheep fat and blood on their fingernails as polish. Some men even dyed their hair blonde.

1300 AD

Dyed red hair is in fashion in Elizabethan England, while woman are also wearing egg whites over their faces to create the look of a paler complexion.

1500 - 1600 AD

Woman are still trying to lighten skin using things such as white lead paint. Blonde hair has become more popular being considered angelic, a mix of black sulphur, alum and honey were put into the hair and left in the sun to work.

Found this app on the App Store
'Perfect365' love it, you can add make-up and change face shape to all your photos

Must have....

A beauty product that me and my group think you can't go without is the Revolution cover and conceal palette at £6
We feel it's a must have because it has many different colours to match different skin types, it can also be used to contour!

As a class we agreed that simple moisturiser was a must have, it's on sale in Superdrug for £1.95 (usual price £3.99) It's good to use before makeup and also after to hydrate your skin

Thoughts on college...

What were your expectations on starting the course?
My expectations were that there would be lots is different elements to work on and learn, although I didn't realise how important working on hair was.

What are your initial thoughts on West College Scotland and the Media make-up course?
I came to this college last year, and studied Beauty Thearpy, decided to come back to this college as I feel familiar with it, I also heard that this is the best college to study media make-up at as they have more resources

What's your funniest moment of college so far?
My funniest moment was while doing wig wraps and applying cling film, giving someone a nice bald look

What is the most interesting thing you have learned or learned how to do so far?
The most interesting thing I have learned is how to create bruises, scars and bullet wounds

Who is your make-up idol?
My make-up idol is Sam Chapman because she's well known on YouTube for her tutorials and she also helped create the Real Techniques brushes

Why do you want to be a Mua?
I want to be a Mua because you get to have many different experiences, and work in different places, whether it's in theatre, TV, movies or fashion
